The Browne Sisters and George Cavanaugh

Strong, unaffected vocals and eloquent guitar characterize the Celtic-American sound of The Browne Sisters and George Cavanaugh, the West Coast's "First Family of Music."

This is folk music for people who thought they didn't like folk music: romantic, melodic and fun. They combine American energy and enthusiasm with Celtic romanticism in a repertoire which includes everything from contemporary Scottish song writers like Andy M. Stewart to Gaelic waulking songs, with even a country-western favorite thrown in on request. The foursome's own compositions such as "Wooden Ships" reflect their increasingly contemporary direction.

Although the family has been singing together since childhood, they have performed professionally for over eight years at Scottish Highland Games and Irish Festivals all over the Western United States. In addition, they play colleges and universities as well as southland clubs/pubs.

Laura and Pamela's silvery harmonies are the group's trademark. Eldest sister Diane sings lead, and cousin George Cavanaugh's vocals and guitar provides the perfect masculine counterpoint.

The Browne Sisters and George Cavanaugh have two albums on the Indie Woodenship label. Both Silver Darlings and Castle Dangerous have received local and national air play, including Fiona Ritchie's "Thistle and Shamrock Hour" and "The Max."
