Dark Island

The Dark Island band formed in the winter of 1991. It features traditional and contemporary Celtic music. The band has performed at the Yuba-Sutter Highland Games in Yuba City, the Sacramento Valley Scottish Games, the concerts at the Victorian Rose in Lakeport, and at many ceilidhs and Burns Night suppers in the area.

Kim Cullen has been singing for as long as she can remember. She has sung in high school, college and church choirs. She was also a member of the Sweet Adolines for two years and plays guitar. Whem she's not performing with the band, you may find Kim on the athletic field tossing the caber or hurling the stone.

Briana Moran May, the instrumental specialist of the band, has been playing Celtic harp, pennywhistles and recorder for more than seven years and flute for over 14 years. Her interests extend into medieval and English country dance music.

Michael May's talent for singing appeared at age 3 and he's still going strong. Also, michael plays bodhran, mountain dulcimer, bowed psaltery and recorder. With his wife Briana he performs medieval and English country dance music with a merry band of musicians called Elsewhen.

Larry Baird, also known as Kurt Baird's brother (inside joke- ask him about it), has been playing guitar for almost 20 years. In the past few years he has learned the mandolin and the octave mandolin.
