Clan na Gael
Clan na Gael is a musical group which plays Celtic music. Styles
include medieval ballads, Irish and Scottish folk music, and New Age and
contemporary Irish music. All five of the group's members have been together
since March 1993. They're experienced performers and have a thorough
understanding of the level of professionalism and personality needed to
execute a live performance.
Instrumentation in the group ranges from authentic medieval instruments
(harps, zithers, etc.) to modern instruments (acoustic guitars, etc.)
In addition to this instrumentation, Clan na Gael also features five
vocalists:
- George Leverett was lead guitarist in a rock 'n roll band working in
the Los Angeles area. After his first taste of Celtic music, he felt he
had touched the infinite and joined Clan na Gael.
- Anwyn Leverett had been performing in rock bands since she was 14. She
began incorporating folk music into her rock bands in the early 1980s and
these eventually evolved into Clan na Gael.
- Kathie Hughes' experience before Clan na Gael was exclusively in
theatre and musicals. Overcome by plaid, Kathie joined the group in 1993.
- Drew Van Hoven performed in orchestras and in the U.S.O. in the 1970s,
and is occasionally mobbed by hordes of women mistaking him for Burl Ives.
- Robert Coleman played the clarinet and saxophone with previous groups.
He wandered too close to Clan na Gael and fell in.
The group hails from Gardnerville, Nevada.
