Maggie Christl and Michael Johnston

Although she has spent most of her life in Canada, Maggie Christl is one of Scotland's gems! An incredible singer of both traditional and contemporary material, she can't help but win over every audience she encounters. Maggie's repertoire encompasses a wide range of material- from traditional songs (such as Child ballads), to the contemporary works of Stan Rogers, Judy Small and herself as a songwriter.

Maggie's talents have been showcased in every major festival and concert hall in Canada. She has toured extensively in the States, Australia and the UK. She has four albums to her credit, one of which, "Looking Toward Home," was voted Best Folk Album by Canada's CKUA Radio. Maggie's exquisite singing can move people through nuances of emotion with a beauty and honesty that makes one feel enriched by having heard her.

Maggie and her busband Michael Johnston have been playing traditional and contemporary music for 10 years. Besides providing guitar accompaniment for Maggie, Michael shines in his own right as an instrumentalist, playing arrangements of traditional Scottish dance tunes on guitar. They have just completed their first CD together, "Picture In Myb Mind," scheduled to be released just prior to their 1998 visit to California.
