Clan of the Axe
In the Middle Ages and earlier, barbarian was considered a derogatory
name, an insult. The nightmare vision of the anarchic, savage warrior has
persisted in art and illustration for over 2,000 years. The 20th
Century, however, has seen historical research begin to reveal a
version of the Barbarian invasions in which the status quo of our
civilization was disturbed far less than was thought. The times were
violent, and much was destroyed, but essential power structures remained
intact. The Barbarians simply adopted and adapted the systems they
overran.
The Clan of the Axe represents in weaponry, costumes and overall
presentation the warriors and maidens from the steppes, plains and the
North who sacked civilization and altered history. Their members
represent 1,000 years of armed competition.
