The Highlanders Regiment was formed during the American Civil War and was made up primarily of Scots, although there were a few Irish-born too. Their battlefield uniforms were Union but they wore the Cameron kilt for dress occasions. They fought in many of the major battles in the Eastern states compaign. The unit participates in battle re-enactments, period encampments, parades and Scottish Games. The 79th is a family organization with activities suitable for all family members.
The 79th New York Highlanders are a part of the National Civil War Association. They'll explain dress, equipment, military drill and firearms of the time.
