We are a small association looking after the interests of cyclists in Scotland who race at Highland Games throughout Scotland.
Cycle racing is mainly on grass tracks, though we do have one cinder track at Inverkeithing in Fife. Highland Games featuring cycling are found all over Scotland and the racing season lasts from late May to mid September. The Cycles used are basic track machines, fitted with a fixed wheel, no brakes and tyres to suit racing on grass.
Cycle racing is run under Scottish Games Association rules, basically the same as those set out by the Scottish Cyclists Union. Since Cycling went "open" a few years ago, amateur cyclists have been made welcome at Highland Games, the only condition being that they register with the Scottish Games Association before competing. Our Association of course welcomes any new faces on the Highland Games circuit and is delighted if they consent to join us.
We try our best to follow in a great tradition of grass track cycling which can be traced back to the origins of cycling, more than a hundred years ago. Grass Track cycling is fast, exciting and still popular with spectators who can number well into the thousands at the larger Highland Games.
