Northern California
Highland Dancing Association
NCHDA is recognized nationwide as one of the best and most effective organizations of its kind. Always a leader and innovator, NCHDA members provide experienced competition workers for nearly all of the dance events in Northern California. And, an NCHDA member recently developed a computerized event scoring program which makes it possible to present dance awards only minutes after the last dancer has left the stage.
Competitions:
NCHDA sponsors three indoor dance competitions
each year. The events are held on the first Saturday of February, March and
April in the San Francisco/San Jose/Sacramento areas. They're run under
SOBHD rules. Wins at these events count toward move-ups, the same as at
any outdoor competition held in conjunction with a Highland Games. And,
NCHDA also contracts with Games organizers throughout the area to manage
their Highland Dance competitions. The Association currently (1998)
manages Games at Campbell, Dunsmuir House, and Loch Lomond; and our
trained support staff assist at many other Games throughout the area.
Why join?:
Most members join because their kids are dancers.
But, there's a significant number of sponsor members who wish to further
the Scottish tradition by helping kids become dancers when, perhaps, their
families couldn't otherwise afford to let them participate. Funds collected
from Sponsor members go toward payment of these dancers' annual dues.
Regular voting memberships run $40.00 yearly, and they allow any dancer in
the family to compete at the indoor events without registration fee. The
first two indoor events are for member dancers only; the third is open to
anyone who wishes to compete (on payment of an entry fee).
