R. P. Blandford & Son Pipe Band (Grade III & Grade IV)

The R. P. Blandford & Son Pipe Band was formed in 1986 in Redlands, California. It took its name from the import business at which the band originally practiced, and which continues to sponsor the band. Although initially formed in 1986, it would not be until 1994 that the band would compete in pipe band contests at the Scottish festivals.

During the years of 1994 and 1995, the band competed at various Highland Gamesthroughout the Western United States. After a total of 24 contests, the bandplaced first sixteen times, second five times, and third once. These included the Grade IV Aggregate Champion title for two years in a row at the Pleasanton Highland Games, the largest competition on the West Coast. The band was also honored by winning the first-ever Western United States Pipe Band Chmapionship in Grade IVat the Reno Celtic New Year Festival in Reno, NV.

In 1996 the band was upgraded by WUSPBA to Grade III. The band has already placecd second three times out of three contests. A Grade IV competition unit is being formed (as of September 1996).

In addition to its competitive success, the band is well-known for its unique style, musical arrangements, and colorful appearance.

The band is under the direction of Pipe Major Kevin R. Blandford and Drum Sergeant Andy Brubaker. The R. P. Blandford & Son Pipe Band is available for hire ranging from a full band to solo pipers.
