Cameron Highlanders (Grade III)

1996 marks the Fiftieth Anniversary of the founding of the Cameron Highlandersof San Diego, making it one of the longest continually active bagpipe bands in the United States. The band was originally formed in 1946 by John H. Rosenberger, who is still active in the band.

The Cameron Highlanders have performed for the Royal Family and have appeared with Rod Stewart. The band and its members have also performed on several record albums. Over the years the band and its dancers have marched in hundreds of parades and made countless other public and private performances.

The Cameron Highlanders have distinguished themselves on the competition fieldas well. Under the leadership of John's sons, P/M Charles R. Rosenberger andD/S Malcolm R. Rosenberger since 1970, the band has competed and won top honors in its grade at nearly all the major Highland Games in the Western United States.

The band is a very family-oriented organization. Of the 80-plus members, there are at least a dozen members who have brothers/sisters/wives or children also in the band.

The Cameron Highlanders practice regularly twice a week year-round on Mondays and Wednesdays. For information regarding the band contact: John H. Rosenberger: (619)462-6091.
