The City of Glendale Pipe Band was formed in 1993 under the leadership of the late P/M James J. Coyne. It has grown from a small but dedicated group of students practicing out of Mr. Coyne's garage to an international association with members throughout the United States and Canada. The band changed its name from the Los Angeles Highlanders Pipe Band when it received sponsorship from the City of Glendale in 1989.
The City of Glendale Pipe Bands (A and B) are under the leadership of P/M Seumas Coyne and D/S Kim Wolach. The bands are committed to team spirit and excellence in musicianship. Combined, the bands have won the Costa Mesa Games (1988 and 1993), the Pacific Rim Championships (199), the British Columbia Indoor (1991), and the Toronto Indoor (1992). They placed Second at the East Coast Championships in 1992. The Drum Corps has received distinguished awards at the Pacific Rim Championships and the B.C. Indoor Championships. In addition, they have appeared on the Dennis Miller show (1992), with the Chieftains at the Hollywood Bowl (1993), and for the American Ireland Fund's Tribute to Angela Lansbury (1993).
