Drum Major Competitions

Historically, the role of the Drum Major was one of a military regimentarian as the band was on the march, directing specific drill movements with mace or staff and forging a path through the throngs of the curious.

Today, his role, while ceremonial, is nonetheless demanding, for he is the marching and discipline leader of the band on parade. The flourishes of his mace indicates both musical and marhing command signals.

In competition, each Drum Major is judged according to the four main functions performed.
